A Six-Phase Secondary Current Injection Test Set Built for Real Substation Work
2026-07-31
Most relay faults don't show up when you feed a relay one clean, nominal current. They show up under phase imbalance, harmonics, or off-nominal frequency, exactly the conditions a serious test set has to reproduce. This six-phase secondary current injection test set was designed for that, packing high output, wide frequency range, and full waveform control into a 19 kg case.
Six phases of current, in series or parallel
Each of the six current channels delivers 0 to 30 A with 0.1-grade output precision, plenty for testing differential (87), overcurrent (50/51), and multi-phase schemes independently. Need more muscle for a heavy CT burden? Parallel all six channels for up to 180 A. Peak power reaches 450 VA per phase and 1000 VA in parallel (up to 10 s), and each phase sustains 10 A for long-duration timing work. A separate DC current mode gives 0 to plus/minus 10 A per phase (60 A paralleled) for testing DC-sensitive elements.
Voltage, harmonics, and frequency
On the voltage side you get 0 to 120 V phase (240 V line) AC, plus a DC mode to plus/minus 160 V phase. Both current and voltage run a fundamental from 0 to 1200Hz and reproduce harmonics from the 0th to the 24th order, so you can prove relay behavior against distorted, real-world waveforms instead of a perfect sine.
I/O and timing that close the loop
Ten binary inputs (free contact or potential contact) and eight outputs (220 V /0.2 A DC, 220 V / 0.5 A AC) let you drive and monitor the full trip logic. The timer spans 0.1 ms to 9999 s with better than 0.1 ms accuracy, so pickup and operating-time measurements are trustworthy.
Powers the loop, too
A built-in adjustable auxiliary DC supply (110 V and 220 V, trimmable 80% to 110%,1.5 A, protected by a replaceable 2 A / 250 V fuse) energizes the relay or triploop on site, one less thing to carry.

FAQ (for FAQ Schema):
Q: How much current can this secondary injection test set output?
A: Up to 30 A per phase across six phases, or up to 180 A with all phases in
parallel (1000 VA for up to 10 seconds).
Q: Can it test relays with harmonics and off-nominal frequency?
A: Yes, it covers a 0-1200 Hz fundamental and reproduces harmonics up to the 24th order.
Q: Does it supply auxiliary DC power for the relay?
A: Yes, a built-in 110 V / 220 V adjustable supply (80-110%, 1.5 A) can power the
relay or trip loop on site.
